What you'll discover

Political Alignment Score

A percentage showing how aligned your political beliefs are across four dimensions: authority, economics, scope, and culture.

Areas of Agreement

The specific beliefs and values you share — the foundation for understanding each other's perspectives.

Potential Tensions

Where your views diverge most. Not to argue about — but to understand why you each think differently.

Bridge-Building Tips

Specific suggestions for productive conversations: where to start, what to skip, how to find common ground when the easy answers run out.

The method

How we calculate political alignment

Compatibility isn't whether you agree on the issues of the week. It's how aligned your political center of gravity is across the foundational dimensions that shape every issue.

Authority ↔ Liberty

How much should the state coerce, and how much should individuals be free to choose their own path? Disagreement here predicts disagreement everywhere else.

Markets ↔ Collective

Should markets allocate resources, or should the state intervene to redistribute? Drives nearly every economic-policy split.

National ↔ Global

Cooperation with other nations or sovereignty over them? Foreign policy, trade, and immigration all hinge on this axis.

Traditional ↔ Progressive

Preserve the cultural patterns that worked, or evolve them as society changes? The culture-war axis, in plain terms.

The weighted formula

Your political alignment score blends three signals: family adjacency (35%) — whether your political archetypes belong to neighboring or opposed traditions; dimension similarity (35%) — how close your scores are on each of the four axes; and belief overlap (30%) — whether the specific positions your archetypes hold actually agree or contradict.

The family weighting is why two libertarians score higher with each other than a libertarian and a socialist — even when their dimension scores look similar on paper. Worldview shapes how individual positions get applied; the formula respects that.

When both users land on the same archetype, the formula simplifies: same-archetype pairs share the foundational worldview by definition, so the score starts at 85% and adjusts by up to 13 points for how aligned your specific dimension scores are. Same-archetype always means strong overlap — the question is just how strong.

Questions

Frequently asked

How does the Political Compatibility Quiz work?

Both people take the Political DNA quiz separately (about 4 minutes each). Each person receives a unique genome code with their results. Enter both codes into the comparison tool to see your compatibility score, areas of agreement, potential tensions, and tips for bridging differences.

Can couples with different political views have healthy relationships?

Absolutely. Research shows that political differences don't predict relationship success — how you handle those differences does. Many couples share core values while disagreeing on policy specifics. Our compatibility tool helps identify where you truly align and provides strategies for productive conversations about areas where you differ.

What does the compatibility percentage mean?

The compatibility score measures alignment across four political dimensions: Authority vs Liberty, Markets vs Collective economics, National vs Global scope, and Traditional vs Progressive culture. A 70% score means you align on most fundamentals with some interesting differences. Even 50% compatibility can work well if you understand and respect the differences.

Is this quiz only for romantic couples?

Not at all. The Political Compatibility Quiz works for any relationship: romantic partners, friends, family members, roommates, or coworkers. Understanding political differences can improve any relationship where politics might create tension.

Are our quiz answers private?

Yes. Your individual answers are never shared with the person you're comparing with. They only see the compatibility results and general areas of agreement or tension — not your specific responses to each question.
