What This Political Quiz Measures

The Political DNA Scan is a free political quiz that maps your beliefs across four dimensions and matches you to one of 32 political archetypes. It takes about four minutes, runs 32 questions, and requires no signup. Instead of placing you somewhere on a left–right line, it names the specific political type your answer pattern produces — and shows you the reasoning behind the match.

How The Scan Works

  • 32 statements, five-point scaleNo free text and no forced either/or. You say how strongly you agree, one screen at a time, keyboard or click.
  • Four independent scoresYour answers resolve into a position on each of four dimensions — personal liberty, economics, nation vs. globe, and culture — scored separately rather than summed into a single number.
  • Template matching, not averagingYour whole answer pattern is compared against 32 archetype templates. The closest one is your result.
  • Eight calibration questionsThe last block deliberately probes edge cases — the trade-offs that separate types the first 24 questions leave ambiguous.

The pattern matters more than the totals because two people can reach the same four scores by opposite routes, and an average erases the difference between them. Matching against templates keeps the route intact, which is why the result is a named type with a described worldview rather than a coordinate. The full walkthrough is on how the scoring works, and every possible outcome is listed in the directory of 32 political archetypes.

What You Get At The End

A named archetype, not a dot on a chart: your four dimension scores and how they produced the match, how rare your type is, the thinkers and traditions your archetype draws on, and the tensions your own answers created — the paradoxes a one-line test has to ignore. Your result gets a share link and a card you can post. Nothing is gated behind an account.

If you want the method before the test, how the scoring works walks through template matching step by step, and the science page is candid about what this instrument does and does not claim to be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this political quiz free?

Yes. All 32 questions, your archetype, your dimension scores, and your shareable result are free and need no account. PoliticalDNA is a for-profit, independent project; the only paid product is an optional Deep Reading report written from your answers afterwards.

How long does the political test take?

About four minutes — 32 questions, one screen at a time, answered on a five-point agree–disagree scale. You can use the number keys 1–5 to move faster.

How accurate is it?

No test reads your mind; what differs between them is how much of your answer they throw away before reporting a result. This one keeps four dimensions apart instead of collapsing them, and reads your full pattern rather than a summary score, so it can separate types a two-axis model has to merge. It is a typology instrument, not a psychometric personality test — the science page is specific about where that line falls and what the Scan has and has not been validated against.

Will it tell me which political party I belong to?

No. The Scan returns one of 32 political archetypes — a description of what you believe and why — not a party match or a candidate recommendation. Archetypes cut across parties, which is rather the point.

How is this different from the political compass?

The compass uses two axes and four quadrants; this uses four dimensions and 32 named types, so a nationalist and a globalist who share a compass quadrant land in different places here. See political compass alternatives for the full comparison.
