More dimensions mean more accuracy. The single biggest factor in quiz accuracy is the number of independent dimensions measured. A single left-right axis can only distinguish two types of people. Two axes create four quadrants. Four dimensions — like Political DNA uses — create 16 possible combinations, and with template matching, 32 distinguishable archetypes. This is why quizzes built on two-axis models consistently frustrate users who don't fit neatly into a quadrant.
Question balance matters as much as question count. A quiz with 200 leading questions isn't more accurate than a quiz with 30 carefully balanced ones. The best quizzes present genuine trade-offs rather than questions where one answer is obviously "correct" to someone with the test-maker's priors. Watch for questions that frame one position as reasonable and the other as extreme — that's a sign of poor design.
Template matching beats axis averaging. Most quizzes calculate your position by averaging your answers on each axis, then finding the nearest label. This loses information — two people can have the same average position despite answering questions very differently. Template matching (used by Political DNA) compares your full answer pattern against all possible archetypes simultaneously, preserving the texture of your individual responses.
Paradoxes are features, not bugs. Real political beliefs are often internally inconsistent — a person might support both strong borders and generous refugee asylum, or both free markets and universal healthcare. Quizzes that suppress these tensions by forcing a single score miss important information. The best quizzes surface these paradoxes and treat them as meaningful data about how you actually think.
